View of the Grand Umayyad Mosque from Qassioun Mountain in Damascus
The most impressive face of the Grand Umayyad Mosque, built and hand-decorated by highly skilled artisans, and the Eagle dome, were treated by C.I.T.E. with very sensitive polymer to preserve the color and adhesion of mosaic pieces.
Our special materials give the stone faces and minarets strength and cohesion, while protecting the stones from damage and weather effects like CO2, acid rain and UV rays. They will also preserve the white color of the stones, regained after sensitive cleaning operations.
View of the old lead roof of the Grand Umayyad Mosque, being treated by C.I.T.E. for waterproofing, fireproofing and heat insulation in 2001. No changes are being made to the look and quality of this historical roof. C.I.T.E. is producing a special material for the job, which thickens to no more than 3 mm on the lead roof sheets.
Extensive work was required on the west faces of the Grand Umayyad Mosque and the lower portion of the Kattbai Minaret.
