Removal of Rubber Abrasion Deposits

from

Concrete and Asphalt Runways

The landing of aircraft causes rubber from the wheels to be burned into the runway surface, resulting in a progressive decrease in the grip provided by the runway. If left untreated, the frictional grip of runway surfaces are reduced to dangerously low levels. Hence, runways must be periodically cleaned to an approved standard. The machinery we use is equipped with high-pressure washing jets, which can remove runway rubber deposits efficiently. Optimum results are achieved by way of the variable angle of attack from the high-pressure water jets. All used water and arisings are vacuum-recovered in one pass, so no F.O.D. is left behind.
This type of work is routinely carried out in Europe with our equipment at the Munich, Frankfurt, Orly and Zurich airports, as well as in Skopje, Macedonia. The machine incorporates the very latest technology and features computer-controlled water pressure. The pressure is usually set to around 450 bar (max. 500 bar), thus mitigating potential damage to the grooved wearing course, especially on Marshall asphalt pavements.
